About

My background

Born in 1965 and after secondary school attended the Portsmouth College of Art and Design for 4 years gaining a Higher National Diploma in Technical Illustration 1986.

I had an interest from an early age in motorsport as when he was 4-6 years old his father used to race saloon stockcars. This keenness in short circuit oval racing continued as a young man and was a frequent attendee at Aldershot stockcar stadium.

I combined my art and stock car interests to sell paintings and prints to drivers and the public from an old hut at the stadium. These featured images of the drivers and cars of the time ranging from banger racing to National Hot Rods. My work was also featured as the front cover for the Year Book for ‘Short Circuit’ magazine in 1987-1988.

The stockcar art sales at the circuit ended around 1989 when the great storm blew away the hut. This led to a decision to expand my art into the whole field of motorsports and exhibition at the Racing Car Show, Olympia 1989. I also started making paintings of racing trucks, as my father was racing, which led to contacts and commissions. A further change of direction was painting gaming miniatures and winning a Golden Demon at the national competition in 1994.

I currently work for the Ministry of Defence as a Technical Illustrator and have always been very keen on motorsport illustration, albeit computer generated rather than the traditional paint and brush. These are produced in my spare time working on 3-dimensional ghosted images and side profiles of stockcars and other motorsports, most recently Historic race cars for United Autosports based in Leeds.

I produce the illustrations from photographs where I photograph the car/bike/truck with and without body work and wheels etc depending on how much detail needed to be shown. And depending on what panels etc are easily removed. I can also convert a cad/3D solid works type image of an area i.e. front wheel, brakes and suspension setup, into an digital airbrushed ghosted type illustration.

The artwork is of the best quality and can be used for magazine double page spread quality to exhibition display and has even been used by M-Sport as a graphic of their Fiesta S2000 SWRC car on the side of an articulated 40' trailer.
